{"id":356,"date":"2017-11-13T23:56:40","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T23:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.waukeganharborcag.com\/?page_id=356"},"modified":"2020-06-04T19:26:23","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T00:26:23","slug":"the-citizen-scientists-page-contains-links-to-websites-that-provide-citizens-an-oppurtunity-to-work","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.waukeganharborcag.com\/?page_id=356","title":{"rendered":"Citizen Scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"10\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0298b9; font-family: Arial; font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Monitoring<\/span> <\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/gbbc.birdcount.org\/\">Audubon Great Backyard Bird Count<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count was the first online citizen-science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real-time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Now, more than 160,000 people of all ages and walks of life worldwide join the four-day count each February to create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of birds.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waukeganharborcag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Citizen-Science-site-volunteer-solicitation-flyer-Oct-2017.pdf\">Shedd Aquarium Fish Migration Monitoring<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">In 2017, Shedd Aquarium and collaborators launched a citizen science project aimed at documenting <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">the spawning run of two native Great Lakes species \u2013 the white sucker and longnose sucker. These <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">species were selected because they move into tributaries in large numbers, are easy to see, and are <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">found all over the Great Lakes. Volunteers<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">collected data from 17 locations around the western <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">shore of Lake Michigan and south shore of Lake Superior in this landmark effort. There are opportunities available for individuals and groups in a variety of settings\u2014both indoors and out. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to help.
